Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but a controversial ad found in the February edition of the Boston Magazine is causing quite a stir.
Is this an insult to the Catholic Church? I found this on CNN Today…what say you?
| BOSTON — A fitness club ad running in Boston magazine that depicts nuns sketching a naked man has triggered protests among some members of the Bay State’s Catholic community.The ad for the Equinox Fitness Club is running in this month’s issue and two Catholic organizations blasted the photo Tuesday, the Boston Herald reported, saying the Catholic League, the Archdiocese of Boston and the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts all decried the ad as offensive.C.J. Doyle of the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts told the Herald the ad “portrays a callous contempt for the sensibility of Catholics.”The fitness company responded with a written statement saying, “Our ad campaigns are based on personal motivation and fantasy and throughout history the body has been considered a form of art.”The company only has one gym in Boston. | ||

The picture is definately shocking and offensive to all catholics or protestants,, muslims, hindus, buddhists, sikhs, jains, or any other religion. Even a normal human being would feel ashamed revulsion.
I ask what if those shown as nuns in the pictures were mother, aunts, grandmothers or sisters of the male model or those viewing the depraved picture.
There is no humour in the picture. It only has bad taste.There are areas which must spared from such depravity of rotten minds. This is an insult to the decency in and of normal human relatios by deceased minds.

Ran across the nuns and naked guy in a mag. on advertising, thought was very clever. I am a sculptor of the human form though mostly female. My work is very classical and never meant to be shocking nor offensive. Your ad is neither, just humorous. Very well done! You should make a high quality art print; I definitely would order one. Dave
